On the “Triple Construction” of State, Society and Individuals——Rediscovering Society

Abstract

In his political philosophy book “Rediscovering Society”, Prof. Xiong Peiyun of Nankai University mentions  the “triple construction” model of the government, society and individuals as the core idea. That is, the construction of free individuals with independent thinking, upright personality, tolerant character and public spirit “rational and warm”, the construction of humanistic, pluralistic, tolerant, autonomous and strong open society, and the construction of service and responsible government with rule of law, democracy, constitutionalism and modesty. Under the “threefold construction” model, society will enter a highly free and open “civil society”, which is precisely the “new society” advocated by Prof. Xiong Peiyun, a “society” with the value of freedom.
